At Carlanstown

North Meath Gaels 4-17 Moynalty 2-6

After a close 1st half North Meath Gaels pulled away to easily dispose of a stubborn Moynalty challenge which faltered badly in the 2nd half.

North Meath started in whirlwind fashion and had 3 points in the 1st three minutes with Daniel Myles and Shane McCabe (2) but Moynalty responded well and where awarded a penalty on 7 minutes which was expertly converted by Kevin Maguire. Moynalty went on to dominate the next 15 minutes and had a five point advantage when a loose ball was pulled on and ended up in the North Meath net.

Indeed two good saves by Conor OHalloran ensured that the Moynalty lead was only 5 points as the half came to a close 2-5 to 0-6 with Myles and Tomas Conlon (2) pointed for North Meath on break away attacks.

Patrick Farrelly narrowed the gap to 4 points and when Ian Malone netted on the 2nd attempt after the Moynalty keeper Jonathon Lynch parried his 1st shot the gap was down to a single point. North Meath won the kick out and Conlon pointed from 35 meters to leave the sides level at the break 1-8 to 2-5.

Again North Meath started the 2nd half as they did the 1st with Myles and Malone pointing and when Malone finished a good move when powering to the net on 38 minutes things looked good for North Meath. Soon after Patrick Farrelly also goaled and further points from Myles (3), Malone (2), Conlon and Farrelly put the game well beyond Moynalty's reach as a cheeky 13 meter McCabe free caught them off guard and ended nestly in the corner of the net. Moynalty did manage a pointed free but had no answer to North Meaths 2nd half onslaught.

Thomas McGrath, Padraig Carolan, Adam Farrelly, Jonathon Finnegan along with the scorers played really well for North Meath as co captains Daniel Myles, Thomas McGrath and Niall Yorke received the Trophy from Coiste Fe 18 PRO Ultan Fitzpatrick.

Conor OHalloran; Edward Cassidy, Padraig Carolan; Niall Yorke, Thomas McGrath, Adam Farrelly; Jonathon Finnegan, Daniel Myles (0-6); Ian Malone (2-3), Michael Finnegan, Shane McCabe (1-2); Patrick Farrelly (1-2), Tomas Conlon (0-4). After struggling to get numbers in the Spring League and while making the Semi final having to line out with two less than fit players Drumconrath/Meath agreed when approached by Kilmainhamwood to compete as North Meath Gaels in this new competition the U-16 Summer League.

Kilmainhamwood had not fielded in any games in the Spring League and with games scheduled over the Holiday months Drumconrath/Meath would have struggled to get the required number over that peroid.

North Meath have won 4 and drawn 1 of the League games and topped the group and ace up to the team they drew with Moynalty in the Final.

North Meath have 19 of a panel at this stage with all hopefully available for next Tuesday [8 Drumconrath, 6 Kilmainhamwood and 5 Meath Hill]

The team has a decent midfield pairing of Daniel Myles and Jonathon Finnegan who we hope will break even against a good Moynalty duo. Thomas McGrath is a fine player at Centre half back while the team boasts 3 Meath U-15s Conor OHalloran [goals] Ian Malone and Shane McCabe in the half forward line.

These two along with Patrick Farrelly, Tomas Conlon and Michael Finnegan have troubled most defences in the competition and at times this team has adopted a "whatever the opposition scores we will score more" attitude.

McGrath is well supported by Niall Yorke, Padraig Carolan, Adam Farrelly and Edward Cassidy in the backs while Luke Doran, Martin Meegan, Colm McEvoy, Dylan Boyle are pushing hard also for starting places after good displays in the semi final win over Inny Gaels.

So come along and lend your support to the Boys on Tuesday.

At Drumconrath

North Meath Gaels 3-20   Inny Gaels 1-5

After a close 1st half when 2 late Ian Malone points and and goal from Patrick Farrelly had North Meath 1-7 to 1-3 ahead

A scintalating second half display blew the Brigids/Moylagh combination away with an early goal from Tomas Conlon and some great scores from Malone, Shane McCabe and Daniel Myles while the North Meath defence was led well by Thomas McGrath, Niall Yorke and Adam Farrelly in was very much one way traffic.

Conor OHalloran; Edward Cassidy, Padraig Carolan; Niall Yorke (0-1), Thomas McGrath (0-1), Adam Farrelly; Jonathon Finnegan (0-2), Michael Finnegan; Ian Malone (0-5), Daniel Myles (0-5), Shane McCabe (0-4); Patrick Farrelly (1-0), Tomas Conlon (1-2). Minor Shield final

At Trim

Drumconrath/Meath Hill 1-12 Walterstown 0-11

The minor footballers' from Drumconrath and Meath Hill gave their Adult counterparts on the way to go with this Final victory in Trim last evening. Both adult clubs have seen better times and both lie at the basement of Division 3 in the All County Leagues, while Meath Hill are relying on results to go their way to progress in the JFC, Drumconrath are preparing for a  Relegation battle in the same competition.

This display will give both Clubs a lift in the near future and both will hope to hone in on this underage success the 1st Minor Competition win in many a long year and all the sweeter as Niall Martin, Daniel Myles, Mark Halpenny and Shane McCabe where unavailable for this game as efforts to move the game back 24 hours where unsuccessful.

The Red and Blue were first out of the blocks with a Jack Corscadden point and where unlucky in their very 1st attack when a slick move seen Brendan Lyons through on goal but a last ditch tackle seen the ball go wide and calls for a penalty where waved away by referee Brendan Darby who had  a good game.

Walterstown took over in the middle third of the field and the North Meath defence was under serious pressure as Robbie McDonnell and Cormac Madden where given an endless supply of good ball as Walterstown reeled off 5 points in a row a number of them well struck frees from Madden as the North Meath lads backs creaked under pressure indeed Darby again waved away penalty appeals this time from Walterstown during this time of onslaught.

David OHalloran was called ashore after 10 minutes as the hamstring injury he picked up in the semi Final just 6 days earlier reoccurred but his replacement Eoin Martin went on to play a starring role in an unfamiliar position of right half back.

A couple of missed frees from Drumconrath/Meath led to concern but Dara McGrath and Jamie Byrne pointed and with Tommie Rooney taking over in the middle of the park the Red and Blue came more into the game. Walterstown still proving a threat pointed twice but a well worked goal when Conor Martin cleverly found Corscadden on the edge of the box and he flicked the ball to the net beating both his marker and the goalie to the punch.

Walterstown responded well with a neat point but Drumconrath/Meath Hill finished well with their outstanding player Brendan Lyons and Tommie Rooney pointing just before the break to see the team retire level 1-5 to 0-8.

Walterstown came out all guns blazing and pointed within a minute of the restart but with the Drumconrath/Meath Hill defence tightening up Patrick Dunne and Keith McConnon in particular and Pierce McGrath really coming into his own and giving Rooney good support at midfield the North Meath lads went about winning the game.

Three Pierce McGrath points (2 frees) pushed them ahead and when Lyons and Dara McGrath pointed there was four points in it at the 3/4 stage as Corscadden seen Yellow for the 2nd time and Drumconrath/Meath Hill where down to 12 players for the last 12 minutes.

Lyons worked tirelessly along with McGrath and Rooney and Dara McGrath pointed twice in quick succession but Walterstown came more into the game and two points from the Blacks narrowed the gap to a goal as it looked like the extra man might tell. Fresh legs in Ian Malone and Niall Yorke where introduced and Malone in his first touch showed a clean pair of heels and notched a rallying point. After that Drumconrath/Meath Hill closed up shop and defended well to see the game out.

Conor OHalloran; Patrick Dunne, David OHalloran; David Hickey, Keith McConnon, Alan McEvoy; Tommie Rooney (0-1), Pierse McGrath (0-3); Jamie Byrne (0-1), Jack Corscadden (1-1), Brendan Lyons (0-2); Dara McGrath (0-3), Conor Martin. Minor semi-final

At Carlanstown

 Drumconrath/Meath Hill 3-10 Carnaross 0-10

Drumconrath/Meath Hill go on to a Final vs. Walterstown after a hard fought battle against Carnaross.

Tommy Rooney who earlier had starred for Meath U-17s v Kildare and played a vital part when introduced as a half time substitute against Armagh in the Inter County Blitz played in Darver that morning was outstanding and drove the Louth border side on to victory. He was aided in no small was by top scorer Brendan Lyons.

Carnaross opened best and after 10 minutes led 0-3 to 0-0 but points from Dara McGrath, Lyons and raiding corner back David OHalloran [another who had lined out v Armagh in Darver] had the game level after 20 minutes. Lyons netted and also got himself a point on the lead up to the break as Carnaross finished the scoring to leave it 1-4 to 0-4 and all to play for in the second half but a good save by the Drumconrath/Meath Hill 'keeper Conor OHalloran another who was on Inter County duty with the Meath U-15s in Monaghan kept Carnaross at bay.

Carnaross again opened well and 2 early points narrowed the gap to the minimum but in the 35th minute Lyons again netted and this was followed by 1-1 in quick succession from Eoin Martin to leave it 3-5 to 0-6 at the 3/4 stage.

Patrick Dunne and Keith McConnon where in good form in the Drum/M Hill defence and substitutes Ian Malone and Shane McCabe [both fresh from Meath U-15 duty] added to an already lively attack with Malone pointing twice added to another Lyons strike. Carnaross made a rally and notched 4 points in a row but Malone and McCabe tagged on points to ensure a decent winning margin.

Conor OHalloran; David OHalloran (0-1), Patrick Dunne; David Hickey, Keith McConnon, Mark Halpenny; Tommie Rooney, Pierce McGrath; Jamie Byrne,  Jack Corscadden, Brendan Lyons (2-3); Dara McGrath (0-1), Eoin Martin (1-1).  North Meath Gaels 2-9    Moynalty 3-6

After giving Inny Gaels a 6 point half time lead last week North Meath continue to try to do things the hard way and this week gave Moynalty a 9 point half time lead 3-5 to 1-2.

A far better 2nd half recovery seen them restrict Moynalty to a single point and score 1-7 themselves to end the match a draw. Indeed a late late Shane McCabe effort sailed narrowly wide as a draw in the end was the fairest result.

Best for Gaels Padraig Carolan, Thomas McGrath, Michael Finnegan, Tomas Conlon and Niall Yorke.

Conor OHalloran; Adam Farrelly, Padraig Carolan; Martin Meegan, Niall Yorke (1-0), Edward Cassidy; Thomas McGrath, Daniel Myles (0-2); Michael Finnegan, Patrick Farrelly, Shane McCabe (0-2); Ian Malone (1-1),Tomas Conlon (0-4). Subs Colm McEvoy for Meegan and Conor Kiernan for Farrelly.

A very enjoyable game to watch, Bordsmill kicked some nice points from distance in the first half, DrumM.Hill keeping in touch with 2 well taken goals first from Robbie McEntaggert, next from Thomas Duff, this was great game of football with both teams attacking at every oppertunity, half time scores 0-10 2-2, the home side ahead, second half went same as the first with both sides out to win,DrumM.Hill went 2 points in front when Kieran Slavin followed a James McMahon high ball into the square and bravely fisted to the net,Robbie McEntaggert then put them 3 ahead, but Bordsmill to there credit scored an injury time goal to get a draw, this was a very enjoyable game with both sides playing a lovely open brand of football.

North Meath blow best as McCabe hits Nine

North Meath Gaels 1-16   Inny Gaels 5-3

Despite giving Inny Gaels a great start and trailing 4-1 to 0-7 at the break North Meath Gaels proved best in rain sodden Drumconrath.

Shane McCabe played a blinder and his five 1st half points kept the home side just about in the game as half time approached. Niall Yorke also was on song and 2 points from him from the Centre Half Back poisition gave best support to the brillant McCabe.

McCabe continued where he left and pointed early in the 2nd half and with Daniel Myles coming more into the game a few more stepped up to the mark to help McCabe out. Points from Myles, Conor Kieran and Patrick Farrelly and a goal from Myles put the home side ahead for the 1st time since McCabes early 1st half point had them briefly in the led on 4 minutes.

Inny Gaels refused to lie down and 1-2 in the middle third of the second half had them back in control and 4 points in the lead. Again McCabe was to the fore and 2 fine points started the 2nd come back. Yorke again strode forward to narrow the gap and Myles leveled the game with time running out.

Fittingly McCabe found the winner with an excellant score from 30 metres to secure a narrow victory.

Myles, Yorke, Michael Finnegan and Adam Farrelly all supported Man of te Match McCabe best.

Conor OHalloran; Martin Meegan, Patrick Carolan; Colm McEvoy, Niall Yorke (0-3), Adam Farrelly; Daniel Myles (1-2), Michael Finnegan; Conor Kieran (0-1), Ian Malone, Shane McCabe (0-9); Patrick Farrelly (0-1), Aaron Farrelly. Subs Dylan Boyle for Aaron Farrelly and Tomas Conlon for OHalloran.

In Slane       North Meath Gaels 6-11 Bru na Boinne 2-11

North Meath Gaels decision to amalgamate for this competition got off to a good start as this victory in Slane shows. The combined clubs managed to get 15 players and played the home side in a 13 aside game.

The strong breeze made it a game of 2 halves but 6 1st half goals for the visitors laid a good foundation for eventual victory and while Bru na Boinne put in a great 2nd half revival late points from Daniel Myles (2) and goalie come forward Conor OHalloran kept a safe distance between the side. Patrick Farrelly, Niall Yorke, Adam Farrelly and Thomas McGrath also played well for North Meath.

Conor OHalloran (0-1); Martin Meegan, Patrick Carolan; Edward Cassidy, Niall Yorke, Adam Farrelly; Daniel Myles (2-2), Thomas McGrath (0-2); Michael Finnegan, Tomas Conlon (1-1), Shane McCabe (1-2); Ian Malone (1-1), Patrick Farrelly (1-2). Subs Colm McEvoy for Malone, Conor Kiernan for Cassidy.

  Div 6 Final

At Castletown

North Meath Gaels 5-6        Syddan 2-12

The Drumconrath/Meath Hill Kilmainhamwood combination gained their 1st silverware when deservedly beating neighbours Sydan in a thrilling encounter at Castletown watched by a good crowd of passionate GAA peole from all 4 clubs.

Syddan started well and led 0-4 to 0-1 after 10 minutes with Dara Rowe scoring all Syddan points and indeed he went on to score 1-11 of the 2-12 of the Syddan boys total. Colm McEvoy pointed the North Meath Gaels point from a free.

The Gaels came more into the game with points from Kevin Carolan, Conor Kieran and livewire Paul Carolan but still trailed 0-6 to 0-4 after 20 minutes with Rowe looking like he would win the game on his own for Syddan.

Conor Kieran put North Meath ahead with a good goal and from that on they were never headed as soon after Ryan Owens hit 1-1 the goal after a great run through the Syddan defense. A 3rd goal from Paul Carolan left the score at 3-5 to 0-8 at the break.

Owens continued where he left off and pointed early in the 2nd half and although North Meath had the majority of the possession lots of wides and balls dropped short into the Syddan 'Keeper hands gave Syddan hope and two points from Rowe plus a good individual goal from him narrowed the gap to 3-6 to 1-10 at the 3/4 stage. Paul Carolan belittled his stature and reacted quickest and fisted the ball to the Syddan net almost immediately to cancel out that goal and lift the combination teams spirits to give them confidence to push for victory.

North Meath continued to waste possession but Stephan Shields was keeping better tabs on Rowe and while Syddan did get a 2nd goal James Mooney eventually put an end to the Gaels wastefulness by finding the net on 55 minutes. Two late Rowe points from frees narrowed the gap to a single score but North Meath held on and have Captain Dominic Yorke to thank as he made 3 superb saves to deny Syddan further goals in that 2nd half.

Yorke was well supported by Brendan Crosbie, Stephan Shields, Ryan Owens, Colm McEvoy, James Mooney and Paul Carolan while Conor Marry, Kevin Carolan, Conor Kieran and subs John Duff and Robert McEntaggert also had their moments as on the night the better all round team won out as Sean Clare gave best support to Rowe for Syddan.

Youth Officer Peter OHalloran on behalf of the Juvenile Board presented the Cup to a proud captain Dominic Yorke.

At Drumconrath
Ballinlough 1-12 Drumconrath/Meath Hill 0-9

On a wet night in Drumconrath the home side already assured of a semi final but needing to win to have a home venue where second best to a Ballinlough side needing to win to have a chance of progressing.

In the end Ballinloughs win did them no good as results went against them in the other games as Killary Emmets beat Ballivor to clinch the last semi final spot

An early Jack Tunney goal separated the sides at the break as Ballinlough led 1-5 to 0-5 and while Drumconrath/Meath Hill narrowed the gap to a point Ballinlough finished best and where deserved winners.

Semi Final at Syddan

Killary Emmet's 0-17
Drumconrath/Meath Hill 2-5

Injury struck Drumconrath/Meath Hill found the 3 day turnover to much and with Edward Cassidy also missing they found Killary Emmet's too strong on a wonderful evening in Syddan.
Exchanges where close early on with Patrick Farrelly and Ian Malone proving a threat up front the sides where level on 0-4 each after the 1st quarter. Killary upped the pace and notched 5 points in a row but Farrelly netted a late goal to leave in 0-9 to 1-4 at the break.

Malone and Farrelly clearly struggled with injury and Killary drew solace from this and dominated the 2nd half with Michael Smith, Kevin Traynor and Dara Rowe in good form pulled away.

Enda Boylan defended very well and Conor OHalloran kept a clean sheet despite being put under serious pressure as Farrelly battled away up front living on scraps and while he did net his 2nd goal late on there was never any doubt about the result.

At Drumconrath

 Drumconrath/Meath Hill 6-15   Carnaross 2-1

What a turn around in a few years. Two years ogo Drumconrath/Meath Hill suffered two heavy defeats by Carnaross one in a Summer League Final. Lat year we beat the Maroon and Yellows in the U-15 semi Final by 1 point.

Drumconrath/Meath Hill always looked likey winners and notched the 1st four scores of the game through Jonathon Byrne, Tomas Conlon and two Shane McCabe frees. Carnaross opened their account when a long punt decieved the backs and forwards and bounced over the bar.

Two more McCabe frees along with points from Byrne (2) and Daniel Myles completed the 1st half home sides tally but a Jack Yore goal left just 5 poibts in it  0-9 to 1-1.

Early 2nd half goals from Byrne and Myles finished the game off as early as the 35th minute and from then on the one way traffic continued with goals from Byrne, Niall Yorke, McCabe and Patrick Farrelly. McCabe kept his 100% record with 3 pointed frees as Byrne, Farrelly and Ian Malone also had points.

Minor league At Drumconrath

Drumconrath/Meath Hill needing at least a draw to make the Semi Finals came up short when St Colmcilles limped over the win for a narrow victory.

St Colmcilles 3-5     Drumconrath/Meath Hill 1-10.

St Colmcilles opened the scoring but a Dara McGrath pointed a free to level up matters. Things looked good for the seaside's when a high ball into the area was fisted to the net but Niall Yorke reacted quickest at the other end to level the game again when he flicked the ball to the Colmcilles net.

St Colmcilles took the lead again in the 20th minute but the home side dominated and points from Tommie Rooney, Dara McGrath and Conor Martin Martin had them leading 1-4 to 1-2 at the break.

The visitors started best in the 2nd half and pointed twice to lead and then a loose ball was booted to the Drumconrath/Meath Hill net as the home defense was slow to react. St Colmcilles then notched their last point in the 42th minute to go four points ahead.

Points from Dara McGrath, Pierse McGrath and a free from Rooney narrowed the gap to the minimum and when Conor Martin broke through the Colmcilles 'Keeper made a great save and the ball was moved downfield and instead it was the home sides net that bulged as again the defense failed to clear a ball and the mistake was punished.

Down 4 points with 7 minutes remaining the Red and Blue battled on and Brendan Lyons and Pierse McGrath [2] narrowed the gap to just one point. Drumconrath/Meath Hill piled on the pressure knowing that a draw would suffice but 4 late wides was all they had to show and St Colmcilles progressed to a semi final meeting with Clonard

Best for Drumconrath/Meath Hill were Patrick Dunne, David Hickey, Tommie Rooney and Pierse McGrath.

Drumconrath/Meath Hill made the long trip to Ballivor and at times looked set for a heavy loss, then an easy win and in the end a late point rescued a draw

 Drumconrath/Meath Hill 5-6          Ballivor 5-6

Ballivor opened best and notched the 1st score but soon after Patrick Farrelly netted and Daniel Myles pointed to put the visitors in control, not for long as Ballivor netted twice and pointed 3 times to put them in a commanding lead 2-4 to -1. Drumconrath/Meath Hill lifted themselves and Tomas Conlon netted after a kick out he lobbed the Ballivor 'Keeper, Farrelly again goaled from close range while Shane McCabe pointed a free from an acute angle to put the Red and Blue a point to the good. The half ended with Ballivor in control but some great goalkeeper from Conor OHalloran kept them at bay but they did manage a point to level the game 3-2 to 2-5 at the break.

Drumconrath/Meath Hill with Ian Malone, Edward Cassidy, Enda Boylan and Patrick Farrelly to the fore played some great football and held Ballivor scoreless for 22 minutes of the 2nd half but did not fully press home their advantage as Jonathon Byrne netted and Myles and Conlon (2) both pointed to give them a 6 point lead. Ballivor got the break they deserved and a 45 ended in the back of the Drum/M Hill net as it was deflected over the line by a defender.

Immediately the visitors hit back as Farrelly netted for the 3rd time and it seemed the Ballivor resistance was broken but we should have known better as a long range effort bounced on and over the bar for a point and soon after a penalty was awarded and was duly dispatched to the net despite the efforts of OHalloran, soon after he made another super save as the Ballivor management urged their players to take their points.

This advice was not heeded and in a one on one once again the netted bulged and Ballivor looked set for victory. Conlon and McCabe missed point chances but  McCabe secured the draw after and good run and off load by Myles. Malone had a late chance to steal victory but his goal bound effort was blocked by Ballivor and the rebound drifted narrowly by the post. The referee blew on the kick out and a draw in the end was a fair result.

At Sean Newman Park

St Cuthbert's maintained their 100% record as Drumconrath/Meath Hill lost theirs.

St Cuthbert's 2-10 Drumconrath Meath Hill 0-7.

Drumconrath/Meath Hill never got to grips with a strong St Cuthbert's side as the scoreline shows. Slow out of the traps and trailing 1-5 to 0-0 coming up to half time two late points a Shane McCabe free and one from play from Ian Malone left 6 points in it at the break. The woodwork early on had saved St Cuthbert's and two other scoreable frees where missed but over the home side fully deserved their lead.

The visitors playing against the wind for the 2nd half put up a better show but a morale boosting goal that was needed never came and it was St Cuthbert's who netted but not with some heroics from Conor OHalloran in the Red and Blue goals.

Points from McCabe [free} Malone, Jonathon Byrne, Daniel Myles and Tomas Conlon made the score line a little respectable but in truth St Cuthbert's where never in danger.

Best for Drumconrath/Meath Hill where OHalloran, Edward Cassidy, Enda Boylan and Jonathon Finnegan in what was a disappointing display.

Conor OHalloran; Edward Cassidy, Niall Yorke, Ryan Owens; Darren Byrne, Enda Boylan, Shane McCabe (0-2); Jonathon Finnegan, Daniel Myles (0-1); Ian Malone (0-2), Patrick Farrelly, Colm McEvoy; David Russell, Jonathon Byrne (0-1), Tomas Conlon (0-1).

Minor League

At Drumconrath

Unbeaten Clonard made the long trip North with the intention of finishing the League part of the MFL Division 4 with a 100% record but went away empty handed as a resolute home side gained their 2nd win and gave themselves a sporting chance of making the Semi Finals.

In what was excellent conditions both teams served up some thrilling football.

Drumconrath/Meath Hill 1-11  Clonard 1-8

Drumconrath/Meath Hill bolted from the traps and by the 10th minute led 0-5 to 0-0 with fine points from play from Pierce McGrath (2), Eoin Martin, Jamie Byrne and Daniel Myles, indeed Myles could have had a goal as a rampant side controlled the game but for a great save by the Clonard 'Keeper, Cormac Fitzsimons.

Clonard weathered that early storm and points from Adrian Boland and a good individual goal from Darren McNevin had the game level. McGrath pushed the home side ahead again but David Doyle and Boland edged the visitors ahead as the half neared completion but two injury time frees from Eoin Martin saw the sides retire to a well earned half time break with the score 0-8 to 1-4 in the Red and Blue's favour.

Two early Boland frees seen the lead switch hands again and while it took Drumconrath/Meath Hill 15 minutes to register their 2nd half account it was one worth waiting for as in what was a great down field move started by Brendan Lyons and ended with the same player deftly finding the back of the net as Drum/M Hill took the lead again.

Clonard not to be outdone pointed twice in quick succession to level again through a Boland free and a Jason Maguire point from play as the game entered the final 5 minutes. Drumconrath/Meath finished the game stronger with Pierce McGrath lofting over a great point from near the sideline and soon after his brother Daragh also split the posts. Clonard pressed forward and the home defense held out as 'Keeper Conor OHalloran saved well on two occasion's and Eoin Martin pointed with the last kick of the game to secure a well earned win.

The Red and Blue had good performances all over the field with Pierce McGrath, Keith McConnon, Brendan Lyons, David OHalloran, Alan McEvoy and Eoin Martin showing well

Conor OHalloran; Patrick Dunne, David OHalloran, Brendan Lyons (1-0); David Hickey, Keith McConnon, Alan McEvoy; Tommie Rooney, Pierce McGrath (0-4); Jamie Byrne (0-1), Jack Corscadden, Daniel Myles (0-1); Conor Martin, Dara McGrath (0-1), Eoin Martin (0-4). Subs Ian Malone for Byrne.

U 16 League

In what was an amazing comeback Drumconrath/Meath Hill came from 11 points down at the break to record a victory over their neighbours Killeary Emmett's [Castletown/Syddan]

At Castletown    Drumconrath/Meath Hill 5-8    Killeary Emmett's 4-9

While possession was evenly shared during the 1st half the home side really took their chances and fully deserved their half time lead of 3-6 to 0-4 because of this. Drumconrath/Meath Hill had chances but due to some poor option taking and good defending from Killeary they where a dejected bunch at the short whistle.

An early second half Patrick Farrelly point lifted spirits and when Ian Malone netted on 37 minutes the hope was that a land slide could be averted. Three Tomas Conlon goals on 40, 42 and 47 minutes put the Red and Blue two points clear and while Killeary found their feet and on a rare sally forward pointed, replies from Malone and Shane McCabe kept the visitors in control.

Killeary upped their game again and two more points followed to narrow the gap to a single point but with vital bragging rights at stake in the local schools the following morning Drumconrath/Meath Hill pushed for home as Malone netted his second goal and Farrelly pointed to push the Red and Blue 5 points clear with time running out.

A goal netted in injury time proved not enough as the Drumconrath Parish side held out to secure victory over the combined Parishes of Lobinstown and Castletown.

Drumconrath/Meath Hill; Conor OHalloran; Edward Cassidy, Niall Yorke; Luke Doran, Enda Boylan, Tomas Conlon (3-0); Jonathon Finnegan, Darren Byrne; David Russell, Patrick Farrelly (0-3), Colm McEvoy; Ian Malone (2-4), Shane McCabe (0-1). Sub Ryan Owens for Russell.

Minor League

At Kilberry  Friday 9th April

An excellent 1st half display when they led 0-11 to 0-4 saw the home side take the two points and put themselves in with a good chance of progressing to the playoffs.

Wolfe Tones 1-14   Drumconrath/Meath Hill 1-9

Early on it looked good for the North Meath lads as Niall Martin and Dara McGrath posted the 1st two scores of the game and indeed both could have been goals but points where taken instead. Tones settled and in truth dominated the remained of the half with Andrew Tolan, Fiachra Ward and Ben McDermott impressing they deserved their 7 point half time lead.

Drumconrath/Meath Hill burst into the 2nd half with Pierce McGrath getting to grips with Tolan at midfield and solid displays from Keith McConnon, David OHalloran and with Niall and Eoin Martin coming more into the game made a game of it and when Conor Martin netted with 4 minutes to go the margin was down to 2 points. A couple of further chances where spurned when going for goals when points might have been the better option and the home side broke forward to net a major of their own in the last minute to seal a valuable 2 points.

Conor OHalloran; Patrick Dunne, Keith McConnon, David OHalloran; David Hickey, Alan McEvoy, Jamie Byrne; Pierce McGrath (0-2), Brendan Lyons; Eoin Martin (0-3), Daniel Myles, Conor Martin (1-0); Niall Yorke, Dara McGrath (0-1), Niall Martin (0-3).

At Drumconrath 3rd April

Drumconrath/Meath Hill got their 1st win in the MFL when defeating Walterstown at in good but breezy conditions at Drumconrath

Drumconrath/Meath Hill 0-15 Walterstown 3-4.

The home sided aided by the breeze got away to a good start with Pierce McGrath notching the 1st two scores of the game. Walterstown responded with a point on their 1st attack but with Drum/M Hill on top at midfield points from Niall Martin an awkward free way out on the right and a neat point from Daniel Myles left it 0-4 to 0-1 after the 1st quarter.

A very good breakaway goal blasted to the net leveled the game but the home side got their shooting boots in order and with a shoot on sight attitude notched 7 points in a row from Niall Martin (2), Conor Martin (2), Brendan Lyons and Pierce McGrath who notched the last two points to finish the half as he started it. Walterstown had the last say as a pointed free on 29 minutes ended the half 0-11 to 1-2.

Jamie Byrne got the 1st score of the 2nd half to push the Red and Blue 7 points clear but with the breeze stiffening Walterstown roared back into the game and by the 50th minute had leveled again with 2 goals and a pointed free. A Walterstown defender saw Red with 3 minutes to go and this gave Drumconrath/Meath Hill the fillip to push for victory.

Substitute Ian Malone point was cancelled out by a Walterstown free and in the 5 minutes injury time both sides missed chances until Tommie Rooney's pointed free into the wind edged the Red and Blue ahead. A well struck 45 from David OHalloran was acrobatically punched over the bar by Daniel Myles to get a two point advantage. Walterstown pressed for the goal which would have given victory but Drum/M Hill defended well with Patrick Dunne, Keith McConnon, Brendan Lyons and Alan McEvoy in control held out for a good win.

Drumconrath/Meath Hill; Conor OHalloran; Patrick Dunne, Keith McConnon; David OHalloran, Alan McEvoy, Jamie Byrne (0-1); Pierce McGrath (0-4), Tommie Rooney (0-1); Eoin Martin, Daniel Myles (0-2), Brendan Lyons (0-1), Conor Martin (0-2), Niall Martin (0-2); Subs; Dara McGrath for Byrne, Ian Malone (0-1) for N. Martin, David Hickey for C. Martin.

Minor League match played in Bective

After a quick cross country trip to Bective after the referee declared the Dunderry pitch unplayable, Dunderry still managed to collect the points despite losing home advantage.

Dunderry 2-10 Drumconrath/Meath Hill 0-10

Dunderry aided by the breeze opened best with two quick points as both Simon Carthy and Stephan Coogan looked very sharp. Pierce McGrath notched Drumconrath/Meath Hills opener on 8 minutes and while Dunderry went 0-3 to 0-1 ahead in the 12th minute the sides cancelled each other out and no further scores arrived until the 22nd minute when after a good move Brendan Lyons left the minimum in it.

Drumconrath/Meath Hill felt a little aggrieved soon after when a good pass by Conor Martin found his brother close to goals and he finished to the net but the score was disallowed for a square ball. This was a turning point as almost immediately Dunderry scored after a poor pass in the North Meath lads defense allowed a Dunderry forward to net. With the lift given by the goal Dunderry tagged on 3 more points as the breeze stiffened to lead 1-6 to 0-2 at the break.

The Red and Blue tore into the game in the 3rd quarter and 5 points in a row from Lyons and Eoin Martin (two each) and a great free from Niall Martin narrowed the gap to 2 points but 7 wides in that same quarter was to prove very costly by the end of the game. A break away goal when a Dunderry forward lurking close to the square forced a rebound home after a great save by Conor OHalloran in the Drumconrath/Meath Hill goals lifted the siege.

Frees from Lyons and Eoin Martin again narrowed the gap to 3 points (2-6 to 0-9) and once again it looked like the North Meath lads might get something from the game. The sides swopped points and with 5 minutes to go there still was that major score between the sides but again Dunderry showed better accuracy and notched 3 late points to secure the win.

This was an even game and in the end Dunderry ability to have a better score to wide ratio ensured they got a deserved victory.

Best for Drum/M Hill where David OHalloran, Keith McConnon and Brendan Lyons.

Drumconrath/Meath Hill; Conor OHalloran; Niall Yorke, David OHalloran, Patrick Dunne; Jamie Byrne, Keith McConnon, David Hickey; Pierce McGrath (0-1), Tommie Rooney (0-1); Daniel Myles, Niall Martin (0-1), Conor Martin; Eoin Martin (0-4), Dara McGrath, Brendan Lyons (0-3).
